Sometimes the best trips are the ones that feel close to home yet take you completely out of your everyday routine. That’s exactly what my daughter and I found in Racine County. Just 75 minutes from Chicago, it’s the perfect spot for a quick and memorable mother-daughter getaway.
We kicked things off with alpaca yoga at the Eco-Justice Center. Yes, you read that right! Alpacas wandering around while you flow through your sun salutations. It’s equal parts peaceful and hilarious, and we couldn’t stop smiling the whole time.
After yoga, we worked up an appetite, so we headed to Aries Café. It’s a cozy spot just down the road from the Eco-Justice Center, and it hit the spot with fresh, flavorful dishes that fueled us up for the rest of the day.

From there, we stepped into architectural history with a tour of Wingspread, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Exploring this beautiful home designed for the SC Johnson family and learning about its design was such a fascinating highlight.

Next up was something totally hands-on, a glassblowing class at Hot Shop Glass. Watching molten glass transform into art right in front of our eyes (and getting to try it ourselves) was such a unique experience. The teachers made it very accessible and were pros at walking us through the process.

By the time evening rolled around, we were ready for dinner, and Olde Madrid did not disappoint. The tapas-style menu was perfect for sharing, and everything was full of flavor.
We ended our night with rooftop drinks at Eave, the bar perched on top of the Hotel Verdant. Between the cozy vibe and the city views, it was the perfect way to wrap up a fun-filled day.
We stayed the night at the DoubleTree by Hilton, which gave us a comfortable place to recharge before heading back home.

Our quick getaway to Racine County was packed with laughter, discovery, and plenty of good food. Exactly what a mother-daughter trip should be.
